Bowls Update April 2024

2023-2024 BOWLS UPDATE

May certainly looks like it’s going to be a very hectic month with some of our players involved in several State events. Below is an update with some important information regarding the upcoming events, our 2024-2025 Bowls Program, next season’s Pennants, and the State 2024-2025 Conditions of Play. Our Bowls Program for 2024-2025 should be available soon.

OPEN PENNANTS
Apart from our Grade 1 side, everyone else’s Open Pennant season is now over. Grade 1 were unsuccessful against a strong Corrimal outfit in the Major Semi Final at Woonona yesterday. This puts Windang in the Grade 1 Final against Warilla. The Final is scheduled on Saturday 4th May at Warilla for a 9:00am start. The winner progresses to the Grand Final, the following Saturday against Corrimal.

2024-2025 WINDANG BOWLS PROGRAM

The Illawarra Bowls Program has recently been published as well as the 2024-2025 Bowls NSW Conditions of Play. Our Match Committee met last week to discuss the Club’s Bowls Program for next season, and believe me there was a a great deal to consider and it was evident that the we wanted to avoid the type of congestion that was apparent last year. The Match Committee presented the Board of Directors with a list of events for the upcoming 2024-2025 season. The following events were approved:

Club Championships

  • Men’s & Women’s Major Singles
  • Men’s & Women’s Major Pairs
  • Triples
  • Fours
  • Minor Singles
  • Minor Pairs
  • Major Minor Pairs
  • Senior (Over 65) Singles
  • Senior (Over 65) Pairs
  • Open Singles
  • Mixed Pairs
  • Mixed Fours

These events will be programmed into the calendar soon.
The only gender specific events are the Major Singles & Pairs. This gave us the best opportunity to have both genders eligible for the State Champion of Champion events.
The Triples & Fours are now Open Gender and a new Open Singles event has been introduced. The Open Singles is not an Association Event and the winner is not eligible for any Champion of Champions entry. To assist us with the programming of all events, double headers (am/pm games) may be utilised for the Major Singles, Major Pairs, Triples & Fours. Weekends will be utilised for most events.
Senior Events will be scheduled for Tuesdays, instead of Wednesdays.
Open Singles, Mixed Pairs, Mixed Fours will be scheduled for Friday evenings.
The status of a Minor player has been reviewed to include the current open pennant grading. This will apply from July 1st. The by-laws will be amended in line with any changes.
Club Events such as Consistency, and the Club Selected events will be programmed into the calendar only if time permits.

2024-2025 PENNANTS

There are several sheets located on the Bowls notice board that relate to all pennants for the 2024-2025 season. We’re asking for expressions of interest if players would like to be considered for the following pennant events:

  • Women’s Pennant
  • Men’s Pennant
  • Open Pennant

There is a list for players who can commit for the entire season and a list for players who can only commit for part of the season. The dates for the entire season are also posted on the board along with the criteria from our selection policy for all pennant players.

2024-2025 BOWLS NSW CONDITIONS OF PLAY.

The Conditions of Play have recently been published and is now available for viewing on the State Website. See the recent News Release.
It is recommended that everyone makes themselves familiar with the new conditions for next season. Especially our Bowls Committee members (Match & Selection) and anyone who intends to stand for these positions in the future.
