Windang Bowling Club 1952

About Windang Bowling Club

Windang Bowling Club

In the 1920’s, Windang was a well known fishing and holiday spot.

Fishing, prawning and swimming were popular but there were no organised recreational facilities such as a bowling club.

By 1949, some Windang residents began talking about the formation of a bowling club and on 5th September 1949, a meeting in Peter Clark’s hall set about the business of forming a club.

Minutes written in the back of a cookbook show that eighteen men attended. They elected a Management Committee and agreed to form a bowling club.

And that’s where it all started!

In 1952 wives of the members formed an auxiliary for catering purposes only. By late 1954 the Windang Women’s Bowling Club was born adding 30 associate members to the men’s club. in 1982 the ladies gained their independence and were acknowledged as full members of Windang Bowling Club.

Over the years, a great deal of time and effort has been put in by our loyal members and, our devoted management and staff to create one of the most successful and friendliest bowling clubs in the Illawarra.
