2023-2024 Pennants

Pennant season is just around the corner with both the Open Pennant and Women’s Pennant commencing early in the new year. Make sure you place your name on the open pennant list if you intend to play. This assists us with our grade application to BNSW. The goal is to have the same grades as previous season and we require at least 100 names on the list to guarantee that. Info regarding pennants can be found on our website.

Illawarra Zone 16 Pairs

Well done to everyone who entered in the Men’s State Pairs and Open Reserve Pairs. Congratulations to Dave Tyrrell and Gopher for making it to the Final for the Zone Qualifying of the Mens’ State Pairs held at Kiama. The young lads from Corrimal finishing strong with a convincing win 25-13 after the scores were locked at 13 all. All the best to Jake and Danyon in the State Finals.

Bowls NSW Awards

It’s so good to see our Bowls Coordinator Dave Tyrrell make the final three of the Bowls NSW Awards – Club Administrator of the Year category. We also had two other nominations submitted that were unsuccessful in the selection process.

  • Volunteer of the Year – Geoff Honeycombe
  • Community Engagement Award – Windang Bowls Club.

Our sincere appreciation goes out Geoff for his contribution to our Club, and to Windang Sharks RLFC and Oaks Women’s Hockey for the references that were included in our Community Engagement Award Nomination. Thank you so much!

Being nominated is always a big achievement and shows we’re heading in the right direction as far as our management of bowls goes.

Also worth a mention is two of the Illawarra’s Senior State reps Brian Suckley and Rob Warren are in the mix for Senior Bowler of the Year.

Good Luck everyone!

A reminder that the Bowls NSW Member Conference is also scheduled for Thursday 9th November and bookings are essential.

Social Bowls

You may have noticed a few changes to our social bowls entries on the website. We’ve added a comment section for each entry, in case you would like to play with or against particular players. Thursday Social bowls now has an option for entering a nominated team. We’re also making minor changes to the way we manage our social bowls with a more consistent approach across all social bowls days.

We have several days available for social bowls:

Green 2 will be coming out early November, and green 3 scheduled some time in January. This will impact on some of our social bowls days, with a maximum of 14 rinks available, some events may have to be formatted to triples or fours. Playing fours or 2 bowl triples will definitely be an option leading up to the pennant season.

Club Unification

We’ve had a Match Committee Meeting and a Selection Committee Meeting recently. We’ll be having Match Committee meetings on a monthly basis, and all the minutes and outcomes will be available on our website, or on the notice boards at the club.

The Match Committees’ short term goal is to complete the 2023-2024 Championship season without too many disruptions. Long term, we’ll look at creating competitions in preparation for the 2024-2025 season, which will also coincide with the implementation of the new District/Zone structures by Bowls NSW. Challenging I must say!

Rather than pull in opposite directions, which is what I’ve noticed recently, let’s embrace the challenges together and enjoy the journey towards a brighter future for our club.
