2021 Major Pairs Championship Completed

Our 2021 Major Pairs Championship has now been completed.

The 2021 Major Pairs commenced on Saturday 19th June 2021 with 20 teams entered. The Championship was at the Semi Final stage when Greater Sydney, Wollongong, the Blue Mountains, Central and Northern NSW, the Central Coast, Far North Coast and other regions in NSW were placed into lockdown due to the increasing number of COVID cases caused by the Delta variant.

Once the lockdown was lifted several months later, all remaining Club Championships were in danger of being cancelled, however, Bowls NSW extended the 2021 season to 30th June 2022. No dates were put on the Major Pairs Semi Finals, but players were encouraged to complete the remaining matches prior to the 2021 Zone Champion of Champions events.

After several weeks of rain and washouts, the Final was played on Saturday 12th March 2022. Defending Champions for the past three years, Geoff Walker and Mark Larsen were after a record fourth title. On the other side of the draw were Dave Tyrrell and Daniel Davies who were determined to achieve a title of their own.

Both finalists received a bye in the first round.

On the road to the final Tyrrell/Davies accounted for Pearson/Sampson  21 -12. In QF1 they proved to strong for Jedryhowski/Parkes 37-10. SF1 saw them defeat McKay/Malley 21-12.

Walker/Larsen came up against Penno/Cable in round 2, dominating the game 29-15. QF3 up against the team of Montgomery/Jones saw a win 22-13, then defeating Fitzpatrick/Bradley in SF2 28-15.

Tyrrell/Davies got off to a good start and were never bested throughout the game winning the Final 22-9, and dropping only one multiple of 2 and seven “1’s” during the game.

Well done to all the finalists and congratulations to our 2021 Major Pairs Champions Dave Tyrrell & Daniel Davie, and good luck in the upcoming Zone Champion of Champions.
