Bowls Update – August 2024
August was another big month of bowls at Windang, with our Junior Girl Zoe Davies selected in the State Squad for the U18 Australian Championships to be held at Club Tweed in October. The Women’s and the Men’s Singles commencing. Regional events are also well under way, and the Illawarra Qualifying of the Rookies Singles was also completed at Windang.

Straight off the back of the NSW success in the State Tri Series, Zoe Davies was selected in the NSW Junior Blues Girls A Side, for the upcoming U18 Australian National Championships at Club Tweed in October. In a first for NSW, two junior girls’ teams will participate in the Nationals, along with a composite team with Queensland, providing 12 junior girls the opportunity to represent NSW on the national stage.
CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS
The Women’s singles is well underway, starting with 16 entries, now down to the semi final stage scheduled for Saturday 7th September, with the final set for Sunday 8th September.
The Men’s Singles had 48 entries. Round 1 commences this Saturday 31st August with 16 games scheduled in the morning and 16 games in the afternoon.
5 x Round 1 games were played early.
2 x Round 1 games were forfeited.
2 x Round 2 games were played early.
1 x Round 2 game resumes on Saturday morning as play was suspended due to hi winds.
Rinks required for Saturday morning total 10. ( 9 x Round 1 & 1 x Round 2).
Rinks required for Saturday afternoon total 13.
There will be no social bowls available for Saturday 31st August.
Players are reminded that they must organise their own marker for Round 1.
Losing players in Round 1 are to mark Round 2.
How simple is that!……
We’ll see on Saturday when players turn up and neither of them have bothered to organise a marker.
Round 3 and the Quarter Finals then line up with the Women’s Singles, scheduled for the 7th & 8th September.
There should be some cracker games on those days.

It’s been brought to my attention that some players were not in the current club uniform when playing in an association event the other day, including the marker.
In any of our 2024-2025 Club Championships, the only uniform permitted is the current club uniform. If you have a uniform…..wear it!
If we are low on stock and cannot provide a uniform, that’s when allowances will be made.
REGIONAL UPDATE
The Illawarra Zone 16 Facebook page has had a make over and is now Illawarra Bowls.

For the benefit of our members and visitors, I’ve created an ILLAWARRA BOWLS page on our website, located under the RESOURCES menu. This is managed by us, not the Regional Admin. Links to the Illawarra Website & Facebook page can be found there.
The Illawarra Website is still under construction so some links may not be active yet.
We have another delegates meeting scheduled for Monday 9th September so if you have any concerns you’d like brought up, let Sue or I know.
The Regional Championships are almost complete. The Men’s Singles events are now closed, awaiting the draw. The Women’s Singles events close Friday 30th August. The draw should be available some time after that. The Men’s and Women’s Single events are scheduled for September.
Once the Singles are completed, we roll into October for the start of the Single Gender Pennant Competitions. The Women’s teams have been selected and are currently posted on the noticeboard at the club. All Pennant Competitions are to managed via the Bowlslink system. Once more info becomes available, it will be posted on our Windang website.
STATE UPDATE
The Illawarra Qualifying of the Rookies Singles was held at Windang recently. Congratulations Elias Chidiac (Dapto Citz) and Stuart Powell (A/P) on their success. They’ll both head off to Raymond Terrace for the State Finals in November.
The Rookies Pairs Competition is now closed, with a record number of entries received.
