Bowls Update July 2022

Here’s an update for our bowling members and visitors.

SOCIAL BOWLS

The weather’s been kind to us lately and it’s been great to get some bowls in!

We’ll be attempting to utilise our greens a bit more with social bowls on a Tuesday afternoon,  Monday Monthly events and Twilight events. Our Match Committee will be meeting over the next few weeks to discuss the best way’s to manage these events, so keep an eye out for them on our website.

For those bowlers not involved in the upcoming Single Gender Pennant Season, we’ll still be running social bowls on Saturdays, however, we’ll be starting earlier at around 10:00am. Entries will only be via the sheet posted at the club.

CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS

Our Major Fours and Major Triples are both down to the semi final stage. Well done to everyone so far. The Major Fours S/F Semis are set down for Saturday 6th August, with the Major Triples S/F set for Sunday 7th August. All events at Windang are classed as “Open ” gender and it was good to see members of Windang Women’s Club supporting both events. The team of Marlene Sharp, Sharon Heferen & Deb Waldron into the Major Triples S/F and looking like hot favourites to take out the 2022 title. Last year’s defending champions were bundled out in the Q/F stage by Terry McKay, Alan Robb & Troy Steward. Team Steward storming home in the last 6 ends picking up 15 shots to 1!

It’s always good to see members of both the Men’s and Women’s Club’s coming out to support the players, and it’s easy to notice the “friendly” rivalry starting to develop between the supporters!

Our Minor Triples Finalists have been decided with Joyce Sawers, Daryl Davidson & Ken Sawers set to take on Les Tyrrell, Geoff Honeycombe & Stuart Tyrrell. In Semi Final 1, Team Sawers earned their spot in the final with a 1 shot win over Ivan Switzer, Shane Kelly & Scotty Devine. A fantastic game to watch with only 31 shots scored over the 25 ends. The final score 16-15. In Semi Final 2, Team Tyrrell proving too strong with a score of 32-13 over Martin Gibson, Peter McGregor & Russell Connell. Congratulations everyone.

All draws and current results appear below or can be accessed via our 2022-2023 Club Championships page

PENNANTS

Well done to our Division 3 & Division 4 Men’s Pennant bowlers taking part in the trial against Bellambi out at Bellambi last Saturday. Our thanks go out to Bellambi Bowling Club for the opportunity to play on their greens, for their hospitality, and we wish them all the best in the upcoming season.

All players are encouraged to take part in social bowls on Saturday 6th August. That’s our last opportunity to get together prior to the pennant season start on Saturday 13th August. Our selectors will be meeting this Wednesday to select our teams for round 1. Teams for round 1 will be posted on our website and at the club as soon as possible.

There’s also been a change to the draw in Grade 4 with the withdrawal of Fairy Meadow. This has created a bye in that section. I’ll update all the relevant info soon.
