CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS.
Mixed Pairs.
Our 2021 Mixed Pairs Championship is down to the Finals. The Final scheduled for Friday 5th March at approx 5:00pm.
Our finalists are Marlene Sharp and Mark Larsen. Together, Marlene and Mark make a strong combination, reaching the finals four times in the last decade, with 3 titles to their name, and last years runners up to Nancye Coltman and Daniel Davies. Marlene and Mark were successful over Nancye and Daniel in the semi final last week.
On the other side of the draw is Jan Howe and Wolfram Thiele. To consolidate their spot in the final, Jan and Wolfram bundled out Jim Wolter and Bess Alaban in the other semi final. Jan has featured in the Mixed Pairs final four times in her bowls career at Windang. Winning all four finals, partnered by her husband Denis Howe. For Wolfram it’s his first time in a Mixed Pairs Final at Windang.
I’m sure with the calibre of these players, we’re in for a cracker of a game on Friday evening, so get down to the club and show your support.
Major Singles.
The 2021 Major Singles draw has been conducted. 42 entries in all, which is the best participation for a long time. This required the whole six rounds that were allocated. A 64 player draw was required with 10 preliminary rounds and 22 byes. The match committee will review some of the backup dates for the year as they may be required. Due to several washed out rounds, some zone events rescheduled and now clash with our Major Singles dates. There are several players involved in Zone Representative Events and Zone Championship Events that will require dispensation at some stage. Players are encouraged to complete their games as earlier as possible.
Good luck and great bowling!

ZONE EVENTS.
Zone Championships
A great effort by our bowlers in the Zone Pairs Championships, with several teams entering the Opens, Seniors & Reserve Pairs. Daniel Davies and Dave Tyrrell have made it to the semi final stage of the Open Pairs. The finals will be held at Kiama some time in March. The dates are dependant on who’s still left in the Zone Singles.
Club Windang were proud hosts of the Reserve Pairs. This was taken out by the Father/Son team of Noel and Ken Stopher from Warilla. Good luck to Noel and Ken in the 2021 State Championships. Our own team of Rick Montgomery and Paul Cable making it to the Q/F stage.
The Zone Singles were held as sectional play – 25 up in all events with winners of each section progressing to the 31 up knockout rounds. Club Windang had players in all 3 disciplines. Well done to all of our players who represented Windang, with standout performances from Paul Cable, Bob Driscoll & Terry McKay, all down to the round of 16 in the Reserve Singles. Dave Tyrrell still in with a chance in the Open Singles Q/F. Club Windang will be hosting the Reserve Singles, so all subsequent rounds will be at the club on Sun 7th & 14th March. The Open Singles Q/F and S/F held at Towradgi Park on Sun 7th March. The Final to be held at Kiama. Date TBA.
Our appreciation goes out to our Markers, Umpires & Match Committee for making the Zone Events at Club Windang a success!
Zone Representatives
Zoe and Daniel Davies were off to Wyong to contest the U18 Metropolitan Shield with the Illawarra Juniors on Sunday 28th Feb. Playing against sides from Greater Western Sydney, the Central Coast and Central and Southern Sydney. The event was decided with a last match showdown between the undefeated sides of Central Coast and the powerful Illawarra Side who have won the great majority of these events in the past. The Central Coast Side won convincingly with two rink wins and drew the other.
Several of our players were selected in the Zone Trial against Zone 7 held at Huskisson on the 21st Feb. Congratulations to Daniel Davies (Opens), Rick Malley, Gregg Stevens & Dave Tyrrell (Seniors) selected to play at Picton against Zone 5 on 21st March. All the best bowlers! 2021 STAFF PAIRS CHAMPIONSHIP
The draw has been completed and players are starting to get serious and our staff members have been seen rolling up! A reminder that the first round should be played by the end of March. Two months per round have been allocated so that’s more than enough time to get the games out of the way. The bowling members are encouraged to get together with their staff members and organise their games. See the Bowls Coordinator for contact details if required.
Word has it that another club in the Zone has seen our posts and could possibly start their own staff championship!

MEMBERSHIPS
Our current bowls registrations total 165. A very warm welcome to Jerry Finch. Our most recent “New Bowler” . Jerry already has his name in the winners circle for Social Bowls. Well done Jerry. Enjoy your game and have fun! Our new coaches have been busy, coaching several new bowlers. It won’t be long before these bowlers will join us on the green.
UNIFICATION NEWS
- There must be a legal voting process followed. A majority vote by Members, Clubs, Zone and State must be achieved before before the Unification can go ahead. All affiliated members will get the opportunity to vote at club level. A Special General Meeting will be called at the club as per the clubs’s constitution. This should occur around May/June 2021. An Information pack will be sent to each club outlining details of the voting process.
- This is a unification between the two State Bodies (BOWLSNSW & WBNSW). It does not mean that Clubs, Districts or Zones should unify. This is entirely up to the Club, District or Zone.
- Following unification, every club will pay a discounted affiliation fee for 2021/22 season. The 2019 fees invoiced to BNSW Clubs and WBNSW Clubs will be added to form a total amount. A 6% discount will then be applied to this total amount. Clubs that are currently affiliated with only one entity will be invoiced the 2019 fee with the 6% discount applied.
- This does not include Zone and District Fees. It is entirely up to the Zone or Districts to determine their fee structure.
