Bowls@Club Windang January Newsletter

Welcome.

Welcome to the first Bowls@Club Windang Newsletter for 2021. This year has started off well and everything has gone according to plan.

Club Championships.

Our Club Fours has been completed on time with no delays. Well done to everyone involved. This year we saw 13 teams entered with a total of 52 players participating. The final saw the defending Champions Dave Tyrrell, Chris Bradley, Geoff Walker and Daniel Davies up against Terry McKay, John Penno, Paul Cable and Rick Malley. Team Davies finishing strong to take out the title 23-12. Our winners and runners up appear below.

The Mixed Pairs draw was conducted with a big improvement on last years entries with 30 teams participating. The first round was washed out due to the rain so all games were rescheduled. The draw has been updated with the new dates.

The Player of the Year points have been allocated for the Club Fours and the Leader Board updated. All information regarding any Club Championships can be found on our website on the link below:

Zone Events.

Congratulations to Daniel and Zoe Davies for their selection in the upcoming Metropolitan Shield to be held at Wyong in February. Also selected in the Zone Development Squad/Senior Trials V South Coast at Huskisson were Daniel Davies, Steve Sprod and Gregg Stevens. All the best bowlers and we’re sure you’ll do our club and the Illawarra proud. Good luck to everyone taking part in the Zone Pairs Championships. Unfortunately the first two rounds have been washed out throughout the Illawarra and games have been rescheduled to the next day.

2021 Pennants

The grades allocated for Windang were Grades 2,3,4,5,6,7. The draws will be conducted once all clubs have finalised their grades with the Zone and State. Our selectors have met several times to discuss teams. Thank you to the bowlers who have provided feedback so far, especially those who met with the selectors at the club on Saturday 30th Jan. Its probably one of the hardest and most thankless of positions to be held at a bowling club, but I’m sure our selection committee are up to the task and are committed to doing their very best for our club. The selectors will meet again soon to discuss the suggestions and feedback provided by the bowlers. Subject to regrading approval by the State, the teams should be finalised soon as well as the release of the pennant draws by the zone. After the disruption of 2020 I’m sure everyone is looking forward to completing a whole pennant season.

The Team!!!

  • The performance potential of a team is much greater than the individual talents of a player, especially in lawn bowls .
  • Mutual respect, good communication, trust and encouragement are traits that will foster team spirit.
  • Get to know your teammates, be positive and supportive, resolve conflict quickly , adopt a good attitude , communicate and don’t be a loud mouth or show off.
  • Above all don’t forget to have fun when playing the game.
  • Play the best game that you can, and remember, enjoyment increases everyone’s success!

2021 Staff Pairs Invitational Championship.

In an attempt to engage our staff and give them a basic understanding of the game we love, an initiative proposed by our Match Committee was to invite our staff and some of our bowlers to participate in a Championship. The draw has been completed and will be posted on our website along with all the relevant info. A total of 68 participants with 34 staff and 34 bowlers taking part. The format will be a 2-4-2 knockout held throughout the year. Bowlers that contributed their time to the club, and a few bowlers chosen by the Bowls Coordinator were rewarded with an invite. It should be a fun concept and I believe a few of the staff are starting to get competitive and are having a few roll ups already!

Membership.

Welcome to our most recent new bowling members Paul Spencer and Bella Speelman. We hope you enjoy our Club and most of all, you get a lot of enjoyment out of this game! As of Friday 29th January our Bowls NSW registrations are 163.
